Which dating apps require age verification in the UK?

Grindr, Daddyhunt and Feeld all gate UK users behind an age check. What each one asks for, read from the operators' own pages on 11 September 2026.

Which dating apps require age verification in the UK? Grindr, Daddyhunt and Feeld do, by their own pages: Grindr asks for a video selfie or a video selfie plus photo ID, Daddyhunt runs a selfie through Amazon Rekognition and asks for ID only if it estimates you under 20, and Feeld offers a live selfie or a mobile phone confirmation.

This desk read the three operator pages on 11 September 2026. The hook: Grindr’s “Age Assurance in the UK” page now carries “Updated on: September 6, 2026”, while the trade-press incumbents, Global Dating Insights and Dating Industry Insights, are dated 24 July 2025. Grindr does not say what changed.

The table does not name Feeld’s partner because Feeld’s FAQ does not; GDI’s July 2025 piece said Yoti, and Feeld’s help-centre article was a 403 to us. It has no row for SCRUFF, Jack’d or Sniffies: SCRUFF’s support article returned an empty body and Sniffies’ support site returned nothing, so no readable page states their method. A gap in our reading, not evidence of no check; our SCRUFF and Jack’d privacy policy review did not cover it. Tinder, Hinge and Bumble also check UK users, say both trade outlets; we read no operator page. All three operators cite the UK Online Safety Act; that is their framing, not an Ofcom finding we read.

Do you need ID for Grindr in the UK?

Not necessarily. Grindr’s page offers two routes: a video selfie alone, or a video selfie paired with an official photo ID. The check runs once per account and UK users cannot access the app until the check is complete.

Does Feeld require age verification?

Yes, for UK and Australia members. Feeld’s FAQ says you confirm you are 18 or over by a live selfie check or mobile phone confirmation, handled by a partner it does not name, and that nothing is stored beyond what was already on the account.

What ID does Grindr accept for age verification?

Eleven types: provisional, full and international driving licences, passport, British Army ID card, PASS proof-of-age card, residence permit, Young Scot National Entitlement Card, Northern Ireland Electoral ID card, UN refugee ID card and UN driving licence. Documents and videos are deleted once the check is complete.

What this changes for a user

An age check says whoever opened the account was, that day, estimated or documented as over 18. It confirms no name and is not the photo-match badge; read the retention column, then how Feeld and Pure handle verification and what Grindr’s free tier gives you past the gate.

For adults (18+) only. This site discusses dating services for adults and does not publish sexually explicit material.
