Bumble age verification: the three checks explained

Bumble runs three checks: an ID request if it suspects you are under 18, an optional ID badge and a selfie check. On its pages, one is about age.

On the pages this desk read, Bumble age verification is a check Bumble can trigger, not one stated for every member at sign-up. Its Community Guidelines set an 18+ minimum and reserve the right to ask for ID to verify your age, blocking anyone underage. The ID badge and the selfie check are separate.

Which Bumble age verification check are you being shown?

This desk read Bumble’s Community Guidelines, its Terms, its ID Verification announcement and its Photo Verification explainer on 4 October 2026. They describe three checks.

CheckWhat triggers itRequired?About age?
Age ID requestBumble suspects you may be under 18, or local law requires itYes once asked; skipping it can cost the accountYes
ID Verification badgeYou choose to upload government ID, or a match asksFramed as optional (“you can”)Not on the page read
Photo VerificationYou, or a match’s request in chatA feature; reported users who fail are switched offNo; aimed at fake accounts

The minimum is 18, or your home country’s age of majority if higher. The terms list other reasons to verify: unusual logins, payment abuse, reports and local law.

Is the Bumble ID badge the same as age verification?

Not on pages read; Bumble’s ID help page returned 403. The announcement, which cites Bumble-commissioned research from February 2025, says you can upload a government-issued ID for a profile badge and ask a match to do the same. It lists Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the UK and the US “right now”; that is the page’s list, not confirmed current coverage.

Photo Verification, on Bumble and Bumble For Friends, asks for a selfie copying one of a hundred random poses, reviewed by a person on Bumble’s team. Neither page says it checks age. Treat either badge as a signal, not proof (see our photo verification explainer). The Tinder, Grindr and UK posts cover other apps.

Bumble verification FAQ

Why is Bumble asking me to verify my age?

Bumble’s terms say it monitors for underage use and will terminate, suspend or ask you to verify your account if it has reason to believe you may be under 18. The same terms say some countries legally require it to confirm members are 18+ before they use certain features or the app. The pages read do not name those countries.

Does Bumble require ID verification?

Not of everyone, on the pages read. The ID badge is framed as something you can choose. But the terms say Bumble may require users to verify their identity to register or keep using an account at any time, and the guidelines reserve the right to ask for ID to check your age.

What happens if I don’t verify on Bumble?

It depends on the check. The terms warn that if you don’t complete a verification request you may be unable to register or may lose access. The badge announcement states no penalty for skipping it. The photo explainer says a reported user who is rejected has the profile turned off, and a match who declines a request can be dropped.

Adults (18+) only; this page explains the checks, not how to avoid them, and nothing here is sexually explicit.
